ok now i know im supposed to be just a student but my art teacher and i have been having some arguments about my artworks..

we get to choose our own theme at the beginning of each term and work on it until the end of term...And i always meet my deadlines but recently he has a problem with my latest works..

i chose the theme of fallen angels and used different media such as pencil, oils, acrilic and PVA... by the end of term i had produced three really good works..(sorry i dont have pics yet but soon u will see)

he told me they were kitch(something a young girl puts on her wall) and had no meaning or purpose behind them..everyone in the class had somee great message behind their works whilst i argued that the theme was our choice and it was something i was passionate about..why question to him was, why must my work have some great meaning behind it or some great message to send out?why cant it just be..the technique and all is top notch but i got a low mark all because there was now meaning in it..

so please tell me if i am over reacting or thats just how it is..

Don't worry I had the same probably but only it wasn't with a professor it was with a friend. He was the same way, "you cant' just pick up a pen and pencil and start coloring." So he says.. But he says it's preferable to have some sort of meaning in an art piece because that gives you some kind of power because it's was meaningful to you and it came from you..your the one in control and you need to be able to share your critizism based on your work..

I on the other hand was like eh... it's good just to do art because your passionate about it not because you have to impress others...It's up to them to interpret the piece in the technical matters.. the challenges and the struggles it took for the artist to do the piece of work.. sure it has meaning, there's a reason for everything.. ART + LOVE..

I have never liked Art teachers. I have had some ones that hated that I was too detail oriented. I have had some that hated that I had no deep meanings behind what I draw and paint. It's just all opinions getting in the way of your thoughts. When I draw or paint I have music playing which is probably my best inspiration to anything, but I have no meaning to me behind any of it. I feel that meanings of paintings are not for the artist to decide, but the viewer to decide. I have some of the most pointless things ever and the most abstract things. It's usually just what I think will look cool. However, people that see it are always like "oh I get what you're going for so..." [insert some detailed message behind it]. I think that's the best way to do it even if you do have a deep meaning to it, don't let anyone know. I love hearing other people's supposable meanings behind stuff. It just fuels me to do something to get people thinking sometimes I even find myself in deep thought over my own stuff.
Working on two big projects right now. Get hyped or not. It doesn't matter. Ha.
