Indeed it's a bit depressing-looking. I'm not sure if you tried to achive this but i think you were. The composition confuses me a bit due to the central split of the two planes. Perhaps explain why this choice?

The blurry foreground on the bottom left is a bit distracting to me - maybe applying an unsharp mask on this region would make it a little less prominent, and so draw the eye towards your main subject?
