What influences artwork? I ask in any form, be it photography, painting, whatever. I find myself really miserable at times, and even feeling sorry for myself. Would this be the perfect time to use the feelings I may have at that time as a basis to express myself. I know a poem that says an artist lives in a world of misery, and has to be absorbed within that misery in order to communicate to the outside world his pain and grief. So is this a penalty to be an artist, to be a tortured soul, living in ultimate retribution...? Also the whole thing with Van Gogh vutting off his ear, thats heavy, but the man lives as a legend. Does it require some level of insanity, or is one just born with that yearning to be sad. Ironically enough, the most profound artist produce stunning artwork. One of my favourite photographers is Italian Eolo Perfido.
Please look at some of her stuff, and tell me what you think. |

Well I understand what you are trying to say with the whole misery and stuff and if you pay attention, most of our work, every artist as individuals get inspired by their feelings, how they feel inside, whether it's there emotions, personal problems or any problem of some sort.
The reason being it's because my work is like that. Every piece of mine represents my pain, sadness, how I felt at the time and in order for me not to just feel it.. I help see it, visualize how I am feeling inside, by my art pieces. I guess. I want to give my audience a sense of awareness, to question them, to feel and try to figure out, why the artist did this or make this painting, or drawing, sketch, or even a photograph that way it is. Trying to insert ourselfs within our work and to getting to know what's within us, it's how other people get inspired or get impact because of the strong output we release from our inner selfs and our work. I've seen Eolo Perfino's work and it's trully fascinating and dark and so powerful that you can actually feel his pain, within the objects he used on his photos or paintings. Same with everyone else. |
