I give up, I looked all over the place trying to find that image to see who it was painted by, my only guess was my initial one which would be Peter Paul Rubens, a Baroque painter from which the term Rubenesque (a nice way to call somone overweight) came, due to his usually overweight models. I hope this has helped you though I couldn't find hard evidence to prove my theory correct! Look him up thought, you may find some more paintings you like! Have a good day!

Hi,
Although this doesn't seem quite his style, the chubby character reminds me of Bottero's (sp?) works. Or is it Botero ? Kind regards, José |

It's definitely neither Degas (too smooth and plump, different brushwork, no setting) nor Rubens (not appropriate subject matter, pose, or garments for his day). And I don't think it's a Botero either (too soft and "fluffy", the only similarity being the model's plumpness).
It seems to me to be a modern, albeit classically rendered, stylized (and somewhat kitsche) work: note the extreme tapering of the leg and foot and sort of weird bend to the forearm. I don't know if it's by anyone famous (I've never seen it), but I would definitely rule out the three artists mentioned above. |
