Abstract art doesn't depict anything in particular. Here's the definition: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abstract_art
After more research, I agree w/ answerer below - expressionism. |

It would be expressionism because it is depicting an emotion more than an acurate image of a woman and crow.

Expressionism would be the best overall style (or "ism") that this painting would fall into. Many works of art do not fit into any particular style. Picasso was also a great innovator, credited with practically inventing cubism and abstract art, along with delving into expressionism and surrealism.
This painting is a stylized portrait, done in the early 20th century - a time of great revolution within the Western art world. I believe it was done in Picasso's "rose period." You could say that Picasso was the art world equivalent of The Beatles - innovative, revolutionary, unique, and multi-talented! |

Actually, this painting is from Picasso's Blue Period. He depicted entertainers, comedians, clowns, etc. This painting in particular is not abstract because you can tell what the subject matter is. I would say that it is mostly a combination of Symbolism &/or Expressionism. It's debatable!

Would this particular piece be from his "BLUE" period?

I am not too sure about that, but this is a really old topic Shanks hasn't been here for years. And Lassie is dead.
