I like artwork in a wide range of media - bronze sculptures, pastels, marble , as well as oil and water colour paintings.

I wondered if members had a preferred type of medium to work in or look at. If I had to pick just one type of medium, I suppose it would be marble scupltures . Something like "David" amazes me how so much detail was achieved with such large blocks of marble.

I like oil because of the texture along with the visual. It gives a three dimensional aspect to a two dimensional piece which is very endearing. I also like watercolours due to the ethereal nature of the paints.

I like using a wide range of media but tend to prefer charcoal and have done ever since I was a teenager. I can still remember being let loose to draw a shpere with a lamp turned onto it to produce the light and shaded sides. I was so impressed at how easy it was to change the shading of the drawing I was hooked.

My favourite medium is Digital Art. That's because it's the only medium I use related to art and photography.

Must admit I also have a soft spot for clay. In the later years of my schooling I chanced upon clay by accident really but after an hour I was hooked. Throughtout my life I have been a very tactile person and sculpting the clay was something I really enjoyed and wished I had the money to continue as a hobbyist. Perhaps when I retire in a fair few years yet I hasten to add, I may rekindle my love of clay as it still hasn't left me over 20 year's after I first came across it!

I remember creating dodgy pottery at school Wayne so I don't think that clay and me get on! I chose "other" as I like to sketch using pencils - sometimes coloured and sometimes just graphite. I like the new style pencils where you can add water and they give a watercolour effect.

I love to use watercolours, although I have only just returned back to my favourite hobby after a little break. My favourite is of an owl sitting next to a river which I shall try to upload at some point if I can find some time. I don't do it for profit rather the pleasure of producing a piece which makes me feel proud.

Hi Brown sugar
With regards clay I too made a complete mess the first time I used it and that was with a potters wheel. I persevered but was hopeless, then found that sculpting was my cup of tea. If I made a mistake I could add a piece of clay to fill in the error and carry on. It really is a matter of practice makes perfect!

That's true Wayne - you could always make something surreal in nature and no-one would know if you had made a mistake. How do you set your pottery though? Do you use a kitchen oven or have you got a kiln?

I love to use watercolours a great deal but to be honest I wouldn't say it was my favourite medium, just that I always seem to get better results for some reason. My favourite medium however is clay. Guess being a very tactile person it just had to be!

I’ve worked on paintings in acrylics, watercolors, and oils…and drawings with pastels, charcoals, and graphite. I’ve also had a little experience with B&W photography. I’ve done ceramics and 3D work with wood, clay, plaster, etc…
However, my favorite medium is oil painting on masonite using old glazing techniques.

I've only recently started experimenting with using oil paints, I'm still not too sure if I'm doing things properly, but then what is the right way to paint anything anyway?!
