This painting was made in 1857. It is a reproduction. Thanks.

You can buy a print like this for about 15 dollars. But you are looking at one of the most beautiful pictures ever produced. And that is its value. Millet depicts women in the fields bending over to glean the leftovers from the harvest. Picking up what was left of the harvest was regarded at that time (mid 19th century) as the lowliest of jobs. But Millet shows these women as heroines and the focus of his painting. Light falls on their shoulders as they carry out their work. The field behind them is bathed in a golden light, under a magnificent sky. Their figures, partially silhouetted, make a beautiful, almost holy impression. So you don't own an original? So what?
