I just decided I thought I would try watercolors but I need some direction so I thought should get a book but there are so many, what is the best one? If there multiple name them all, or just say what worked for you, I would like a book that would be pretty easy to read.

Ive been waiting for someone to answer this question because it is a question that I too wanted to ask.

I very seriously want to write a book but I want to illustrate it on my own and water color is my preference, but I suppose I might end up taking a water color class at my local art center. Happy Painting!

Rather than buy the book go to www.newcenturytv.com and click on artist. This web site allows you to take water color painting lessons on line from several different instructors. you can watch for $6.00 for 5 hours a month. At that point you may want to buy a book from one of the artist they feature. In any event you will have a better idea of what you want explained.
Also I would join the water color society in your area. Most big cities have one and they bring in artists to do demos every month.

There are literally hundreds of watercolor technique books. Look for one with lots of step-by-step demos.

Way back in high school, when I was first learning, I got the most useful information out of "John Pike Paints Watercolor", and I think it's still in print. You might also enjoy "Watercolor---Fast & Loose" or "Big Brush Watercolor" by Ron Ranson. "Breaking the Rules of Watercolor" by Burt Silverman is good for watercolor portraiture, as is "Portrait Painting in Watercolor" by Charles Reid.

My all-time favorite (it's probably not the ideal beginner's manual, though) is "Painting Nature's Quiet Places" by Thomas Aquinas Daly.
