The best way to be a great artist is to create some great art!!
If you don't want to study it that's fine. Keep at it and I wish you well!

Well the best way to get recognised as an artist is to write to galleries and requesting space for your work, and maybe even send them some samples to show your talent.

And always keep a look out in your local village Post office as there are always small art exhebitions around wher you can also show your work and obviously the more you get around the more recognision you'll recieve!

There is no "easy" way to accomplish anything worthwhile, especially something that takes years of dedicated training and practise. Those who are prepared to put in the time and effort, work, work, work, study, study, study, and practise, practise, practise, stand a good chance of some day being measurably successful. Those who do not, will not.

Well....art comes from within. You really have to feel your work and be able to see the world from a myriad different angles. Sure, you might be a painter but you may not be an artist. Ripping off Mondrian or Pollock doesn't make you an artist, unless you are making a statement. It's more a state of mind than something you can actually become.

Art Foundation will give you the confidence and will tell you for sure...but I recommend art school. It's a good way of doing your own thing for 3 years...

Just get drunk throw some paint at a canvas and then say it is abstract art.
it will be much easier if you have a posh accent and went to private school of course.
Alternatively if your dad is a lord or a rich dude you will do ok .

l assume your question is asking how to earn a living by becoming a full-time artist. Earning your living by painting is not for the faint hearted - even those who are hard working and talented have a hard time making a living - if you think its an easy option - think again. if you are serious, the best way to get started is to produce a good selection of your work and find a place to sell it. l would avoid galleries until you are sure - find a local craft fair - what you sell and what you don't sell - will soon tell you if you can make a go of it, or not. Good luck.....

Hi,

you cannot become an artist by going to university. You can, though, learn a great deal about other people's art, and you can learn about the appreciation of such art.

To become an artist, however, you need more...firstly you need to do what you have started, i.e. paint your own pictures. Then you need to paint more until you are happy (ier) with them. A true artist will never be totally happy with a painting!

Though all the practice in the world will not make you an artist...what makes you an artist is the emotion you put into your work. It is entirely possible to have a successful career in art by producing paintings that are appreciated by others, but that alone doesn't make you an artist...you will become an artist when YOU appreciate what you have done.

As an example think of Vincent van Gogh, who is recognised widely as an artist...yet during his life he sold only one painting (and that was to his brother in law!) So commercial success does not mean you have become an artist, nor does not being commercial make you less of an artist.

Keep painting, keep enjoying your painting and you may become an artist...YOU will know when you have, it doesn't depend on others opinions.

University education does have value, but, as I said earlier, it will not make you (or anyone else) an artist.

Many of the great artists DID learn to paint at the feet of their tutors, but the artistry came from within themselves, not from their learnings. Sure, they could learn to use techniques which were in favour at the time, but nobody taught art to Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Titian et al...they developed their artistry from within (though, of course they learned painting skill from their tutors. The tutors could only recognise 'art' when their pupils showed it, they couldn't instill it.

Keep painting and good luck

You don't become an artist. It comes with the package, even if you don't like the idea.
It's the conformation of your brain that decides it. What 's commonly called "talent" or "inspiration" is a series of chemical reactions inside the brain.
Sounds too scientific? Nah.... it's just another synonym for those art attacks.

I'm sorry but there's no easy way to becoming an artist. It's just like every other creative skill, first you need talent, then it's work, observation, taking risks, breaking boundaries and keeping a sketch book in your pocket everywhere you go for inspirational ideas & visiting every gallery you can. Study & work, dedication & nowadays learning to market your work, exhibit when/wherever you can. Art is a compelling way of life. Not exactly a 'career' in financial terms. Fame is rare but the passion for it is addictive. A bit of luck sometimes helps too.

Best advice is to get a degree under your belt in the best School you can. Good Luck

you dont need a piece of paper from a univeristy to be an artist. if you paint and are proud of your work, then you are an artist. if u want to sell your paintings then write to galleries and markets where u can sell paintings. univeristy degrees are only really for art teaching

Study Jeff Koons' career. He comes up with an idea for a piece and then has other people make it (he takes all the credit).

Just keep doing it every day. Exhibit and get a good critic. Don't expect to be rich. Two paintings won't get you far.
