Importance of history, experience, critique, Sure you can learn much on yur own, but at school you can learn from others including students around you. Things you may never have thought of if you were alone and studying. There is so much more to it than being a good painter. You won't ever know unless you go to school

Probably not much, unless you're really unmotivated/imaginative.
It does give you a degree that can help you get jobs, say, in teaching or design. |

You will learn on your own but the schools will help you learn it a whole lot faster. This is really important because once you get there you will find there is never enough time to do what you want to do in art so the bigger headstart you get the better. Also they will teach you the rules and if you don't know the rules you'll not be able to learn how to break them.

They teach Techniques.
Techniques expand your visual language and expression. Techniques are like tools. The more tools you have in your toolbox the more things you'll be able to fix. Or in this case, the more things you'll be able to visually say. |
