I heard photoshop and illustrator work quite better using twin hard discs. How much truth is in this and is it worth of buying additional HD?
And can you combine SATA and IDE discs? |

I have never heard of "Twin hard disc" before. I think you mean twin processors? Like Intel Core Duo processor.

Not, it's a dual HDD configuration. It will only run faster if you have a dual IDE cord to your motherboard, since if you dont the data will be 50%/50% divided by the cord.
So yeah, a minimum of a midi tower for your configuration. Another possibility for you would be a RAID configuration, preferably the one which doubles the speed of writing since only 50% gets written to one drive. Or the new configurations which can connect 4 drives in a 0+1 configuration which means two disks write the same 50% hence if one dies you still have all the data backed up. It all comes down to your choice of funds which you are willing to spend. |

Could also be good to have a RAID array + a small seperate disk to use as scratch disk space.

Configuring a computer to do what you want can be very tricky, but with the correct information you can easily accomplish what you need. I would listen to the advice that has been given in this thread already because most it is very good advice. You should always have a backup of anything important on your system. if this is where you are storing artwork of any king then I would recommend you back it up very soon. You never know what can happen.
