For some time now i've been waiting for the development of a custom competitions system for ArtWorld but the date is nowhere near it's completion. Therefore, lemme announce our first little competition here in our forum.

<span style='font-size:11pt;line-height:100%'>"Reinventing the car thingie"</span>
ArtWorld's first photomanipulation competition

We all know cars. Someone invented the wheel, then manufacture, then the steam engine, then... you all know the story behind this. But ... say somewhere between there would be a radical shift of logic? Perhaps someone forgot to use the wheel? Maybe the car has a pogo drive? Let your imagination go wild.

<span style='font-size:9pt;line-height:100%'>Rules:</span>

[attachmentid=516]

- you need to start from the above base image and manipulate it
- you need to be a registered ArtWorld member (duh!)
- the final image must not be wider than 400px
- the image can be either attached to the post or uploaded to a free host like http://www.imageshack.us or http://www.shrani.si
- to enter the competition just reply in this topic with your image

Competition is open until September 31st.

Fire up your favourite imaging application!

Nono, you have to take the given image and manipulate it. Say add legs instead of wheels or some other off-beat modification

Cheers.

Actually I am experimenting with some new algorithms, which use a decomposition process of an existing image to realize an integration of a new one. In fact I use a previous created image as an outside coloring palette of my generative program. The color selection of the new image corresponds to the image-palette but the form, composition and patterns depend on “free decision” of the computer. Attached image could be valuated as a free interpretation of you car.

Try uploading it to one of the two free image hosts mentioned above. And remember ... 400 px max.

hehe! i think.. they have a huge collection of images at mektek.net and picked one out that seemed to fit the bill for the manip. did my best to make it work, although i didn't spend all that much time on it, so probably some room for improvement.

Heres my entry. The number 8 monster truck.

That took a LOT of work.

Had to isolate the truck from the bg, and mask out the windscreen.
Put a new cockpit image in.

Clone and heal out all the rust on the van, desaturate and darken the yellow colour, create the flames, mask off the flames, blend it to the van.

Highlight the headlamps, spend 2 hours to find a decent monster truck chassis, isolate that from its background, adjust colour and brightness settings, at corona's to the headlamps, create the background image, the rest is a blur, took me over 2 hours.

Im tired, I think i'll go to bed.

hi,
i was thinking : what if we had never made cars out of steel, and they would (still) be made out of wood...
well this is my version. it was harder then i tought it would be, so it didnt came out as good as i was hoping, but ow well, i gave it a try ...

Ok just a quick one for my first. I have no idea why I thought of this but it was the first thing I did on seeing the car.
