I see no reason why not. A second coat of gloss over a glossy paint may seem redundant but as I see it ...the second coat would serve well as a protective coat for the colour.
It seems like a good idea to me if you are looking for extra protection but if you're looking for more gloss then you're wasting your time and money. For protection of the first coat I would go with a clear gloss. If you want extra gloss then treat it with a commercial wax. All the best to you on your project. |

Hi,
I supose that your referring to automotive paints ? Well, independently of automotive or not, one does not usually apply paint over a glossy surface. This usually causes adhesion problems. If you want do add clearcoat you should get a basecoat version of the colour, or at least sand it with a lets say..P800. Cars with solid colours (not metalic) used to be Direct Glow (oposite to basecoat as the metalic ones). Then they started coming with clearcoat, namely the reds and blacks. This is because the clearcoat protects the red from getting pink. And the black stays deeper. With time this became more common to other solid colours. These solid colours when applied look gloss but then they become mat, just like metalic ones. It's then when the clearcoat is applied. Nowadays most of car paints are waterborn and they are basecoat. I sell car paints (also in spray). And usually there are two choices for solid colours : the customer takes 1 spray with a glossy version, or the customer takes 2 sprays. One with the basecoat colour which is mat and another with the clearcoat. I hope to have been of some help. If you have any doubt, don't hesitate to contact me. Ah ! Metalic paints (for cars and alike) are always basecoat ; at least here. Of course that I don't know all brands. Best regards, José http://sitekreator.com/hushcolours/index.html |
