And it is proving to be very difficult so far. It seems like it could be beneficial in the long run, though.

I'm sure there are quite a few advantages to use Dvorak over QWERTY, but for the compatibility with the rest of the world I dont know if I'd ever persue it.

Let me know how you get on, my next move is Das Keyboard (google it), to force me to touch type completly... i still refer from time to time, which slows down a lot.

I can type a pretty constant 70-ish WPM using the old QWERTY layout, but really, when you think about it, QWERTY is a terrible layout. It's so outdated, and honestly, poorly designed.

I mean, why have your pinky finger on the semi-colon/regular-colon key? Although it's a pretty useful button, it'd be better for it to be a letter.

The only thing that may disappoint me about the Dvorak layout is the apostrophe and comma and period. I like having the apostrophe right next to my right pinky finger. Moving the pinky sideways is slightly easier than moving it upward.

Perhaps I won't carry on with Dvorak, but honestly, QWERTY is crappy and should be done away with.

Wow, I am really having an extremly difficult time with this so far. Although it may possibly help sometime, for now it is more than annoying.

This message has taken somewhere around 5 minutes to compose.

I'll keep you all updated on my progress. But for now, Dvorak is a huge inconvenience.

Are you using software to remap your keyboard, or an actual Dvorak one?

But what use is the fact that just about everyone has a querty keyboard? I mean you would have to remap everyone's kayboard in order to work normally...

It's really easy to change the layout of the keyboard, so that's not an issue.

And I just bought a regular keyboard and switched all of the keys. 'Twasn't very difficult.

But how does this benefit from the current keyboard structure? How can a 10 finger querty typist benefit from switching to Dvorak for instance?

Is is workflow, speed or?

More even load between hands, very few one hand words (option, agree, regard), most of the common keys are on the home row so there's less movement around the keyboard - all supposedly making it more comfortable and faster.

Ha, I don't really see a need to switch from QWERTY to Dvorak. I just Googled it and am reading up on the pros and cons of Dvorak: http://www.mwbrooks.com/dvorak/procon.html
Working on two big projects right now. Get hyped or not. It doesn't matter. Ha.

Alleviated is a keyword there... ;) It means relieved or eased.
