First of all, hello to all comunity!
I'm new to Photoshop, but I've already done some basic editing in some images. The problem I have is: at first I could see transparent areas in a grid no matter what kind of image I was working on. But recently, some images would let me see the transparency grid perfectly, while others just show a white background where nothing is supposed to exist (when I clear an area). I'm using Photoshop CS2. I've already deleted the preferences file, tried changing transparency preferences, and still nothing. Any idea why this is happening? I'm including a link to a picture for you to better understand my situation. Thanks. Example. |

This is due to the layer you're trying to delete from being a background layer. Check the name and see the lock next to it.
If you wanna promote it to a normal layer then doubleclick on a name and hit ok on the dialog window. You will now be able to delete the background and have transaprency, |

As Lombi said, if it is a 'Background' Layer it has to have something there - even if it's just pure white. Anything other than a background can have transparancy to promoting it solves this

Glad to help. It's not such a normal everyday issue that you would need to feel stupid. That's what our community is for
