I think that probably the entire canvas was painted black first, then the metallic were applied in a pourable consistency with the canvas horizontal, and then the canvas was tilted in several directions to allow the paint to run and mix on the surface.

It may have been repeated several times, as there appear to be several veils of different metalic colors.

Some of the paint drops have a wet-into-wet effect, but that could be achieved by brushing or spongeing a little water onto the surface before spattering onto it.

The only thing that will "resist" a water-based paint is an oil-based product. I can't think of one to tell you to try, since I have never tried anything like that and wouldn't want to recommend something that will affect permanency.

i went to the andy warhol museum a few years back and he had a painting that looked as though something was eating away the paint. it was a really interesting piece. until i read the tag: "acrylics and urine" i mean, go for it if you want...haha
...or you can just try to paint it in a way to give it that appearance. as far as having something resist the paint in certain areas...i don't know of anything for acrylics. there's a substance for watercolors (what's it called?) it's like a rubber-cement type consistency that you rub off when your painting is dry, but i highly doubt it would work with acrylics.

yep the artist, on the right, Space alien Entity [seen floating in 2-D frame] created the painting on the left -- with regular brushes-&-paint technique, including interesting effect of human legs extending over moulding & onto floor. well done, Blork [the painter's name]
