ok, I looked online at the biography pages and it said he painted for some 40 years. I then looked at a related website biography of Renoir & his work and it had a gallery of 235 images. I cannot guarantee that there aren't more prints to be counted but the artist definitely went thru 3 or more periods of his art so the number of overall works completed and still in existance today should be a large number indeed.

Hi! I found this:
"In a career spanning 60 years, Pierre Auguste Renoir executed more than 4000 paintings." http://www.ecademy.com/module.php?mod=club&t=596201&seen=1 AUGUSTE RENOIR - CATALOGUE RAISONNE DE L’ŒUVRE PEINT Editions Durand-Ruel, Lausanne, 1971 "Volume 1 : Figures, 1860-1890" 646 reproductions In The Burlington Magazine for Connoiseurs: "Rembrandt Problems" by Roger Fry, it states, when comparing Renoir's to Rubens output of five hundred and fifty paintings: "Renoir's oeuvre certainly runs into the thousands." http://links.jstor.org/sici?sici=0951-0788%28192404%2944%3A253%3C188%3ARP%3E2.0.CO%3B2-Q&size=LARGE&origin=JSTOR-enlargePage I Hope this helps! |
