Balance, movement, rhythm, pattern, unity, contrast, and emphasis are all principles of art. in order to create an piece of art, an artist will consider the principls. Balance is essential in creating a piece appealing to the eye. there are 2 types of balacene - asymmetrical (balanced but not symettrical) and symmetrical. Movement in a piece can be implied or actual. implied normally means your eye moves around the page(created by placement of objects) or objects look like they are moving. actual can be a mobile or moving scuplture for example. Rythm can be created with patterns or repeting designs. unity means the piece comes together as one (it isnt all scattered.) Contrast is in the name. (contrast can be in color, texture, lighting, pattern, ect.) emphasis is when one part of the artwork stands out more than the rest.
