I was thinking the other day about how people think of me being an artist and it's a mixed reaction.
All my 'peers' think that me being an artist is a dead end job and you only get famous after your own death, I think they're waiting for me to fail to say "We told ya so!"
My own Grandfather looks down on me and thinks I'm a homosexual because I bought the book "John Singer Sargent, the male nude" which is slightly bizarre.
My parents do their job and encourage.
The fellow artists I know think I'm part of their 'elite' club.
Most of the other people I meet think I'm a liar and don't believe I'm an artist until I show them my work. Or alternatively they just say that art is "SOO COOL!!"

What sort of responses do you get on being artists?

I think the weirdest responses you can get once you are just artarting out - in the first couple of years in your career. Once you get some sort of credential and appear in media a lot then it's a much easier way to go forward or to tell people what you are.

I completly agree with Steve here.
I've worked as an animator, been self employed as a silk screen printer, given exhibitions of black and white photography, busked (I play guitar and sing very well) and do photomontage.....but in all of that have NEVER termed myself an artist.
That particular label seems too complete to me,pretentious and effected.
That is my personal view,mind.
Call yourself a blue ballerina if you like, the term artist does'nt sit well with me and it never will.
As Steve said about your work, Yaunt, it would would be nice to see something.
Why don't you simply photograph your many metre work then we can something about your "Art"

Eh?
