As I'm sure you all know, there's been quite a bit of offensive action being made by Isreal in the country of Lebanon aimed at shutting down the terrorist group Hesballah.
Now, in my opinion, this is completely justifiable, but there has been quite a bit of controversy over it lately, so I would like to know what you guys think about it. |

In my oppinion a huge problem is the conflict between religious beliefs as we now see. What dissapoints me the most in this conflict is the media manipulation like this one: http://newsbusters.org/node/6552
What puzzles me is the fact that car bombings / suicide bombers / mail bombs were okay by the media, but the war that was waged is bad, bad bad. The puzzlement continues at the fact that there are several wars going on in the world, but somehow this one gets all the media coverage. And let's not forget the part of who started the war by kidnapping two and murdering eight people. <!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->As criticism of Israel rises with the Lebanese deathtoll, it is paramount to remember: Hezbollah initiated this war by crossing Israel's border from Lebanon to kill eight Israeli soldiers and kidnap two. Hezbollah then returned to take refuge in Lebanon where the terrorist group enjoys a safe haven behind Lebanese human shields. The civilian casualties in Lebanon will continue to rise so long as Lebanon continues to harbor Hezbollah. Every single Lebanese victim should be laid at the feet of Hezbollah and any Lebanese who have supported Hezbollah's home in Lebanon. I found an interesting (pro-israel) blog here: http://www.littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/ An interesting read, as much other blogs. This one if even more interesting due to the wonderfully done editorial cartoons ... http://www.coxandforkum.com/ |

Very true, the media has been a little too kind to the suicide bombers and terrorist groups that publicly state that they want Isreal to be wiped off of the map.
It almost seems that we forget that Isreal is this tiny country surrounded by countries that hate it, due mostly to the religious views as you stated. What astonished me the most though, was hearing about actual Isrealis and jews here in America who protested the war. It just seems insane to me how somebody can not see that after countless peacetalks, countless murderings, countless vows to wipe Isreal off the map, that offensive action is vital. If during W.W.2 people complained about the killing of nazis in germany they were looked upon as traitors, so should these protestors. Now, I know that war is a horrible thing which nobody should ever have to be involved in and people do have a right to express themselves, but I think that we need to put ourselves in their shoes and feel what it's like to lose your entire family because somebody blew up the hotel you were staying at. Have yet to fully read everything you've posted, but I read about the U.N. repairing roads used by hezbollah, and I was shocked at the stupidity of it. |

Why is it always the terrorists group related to Islam that gets on the news? I would prefer to hear about the IRA for a change. Or Nagaland Rebels. African National Congress. Black Panthers. CSA. Action Directe. I don't like terrorists at all but I understand what drives them to become so. There are so many things going on worldwide but we never hear them due to the type and genre of events that get on the news these days...
Prisoners were being held in Israel. Anybody saying anything about that? Why else would Hezbollah kidnap/kill Israeli soldiers? They were sick of it ! As were many other people - you can't really blame them for 'starting the war'. Thousand of people were being kept hostage in Israel. Is this meant to be ignored or what? Of course Israel would try to shut Hezbollah down - but then of course Hezbollah will continue to do all they can to rebel against it. People are driven to do what they usually wouldn't. What drives human beings to become suicide bombers? To give up their life, their one and only life, by blowing themselves up to smithereens? They are so full of anger, and rage, that they will attempt to create one of the most powerful impacts they can, even if it costs them their life. There are millions of people all over the world, ready to leave their families behind to go and help out in Lebanon right now, but they cannot leave due to being prevented... 'it's not their war to fight'. This is how strongly people feel about something that they could choose to have nothing to do with. It's hard for people to forgive and forget. Something is always brought up from the past to use as a reason for something now. I side with the people who want the war to end - familes are being torn apart and lives needlessly taken. I would love to live in peace with Jews and Israelis... just because certain people think that war is necessary doesn't mean everyone else does, and no one should be judged unfairly without reason... people naturally assume things are true about a whole nation because of certain people who had made an impact on them. They don't bother to find out all sides or views of the situation, let alone the facts. At the moment I feel the world is one serious messed up place and no one is doing much to put it right... |

Any special reason you posted your message twice? Was this just a copy & paste?
Anyways, I really got a interesting story in my mailbox today: ![]() Lebanese photographers photoshopping photographs for Reuters. Interesting. And the same guy is supposedly staging other photos. More info on the LGF blog which uncovered the story: http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=21956&only&rss

Shadow: They were pows, but when hezballah came and took the isrealis captive they brutally murdered them, and that's where the line is drawn.
The major distinction between isreal's actions and hezballah's is that Isreal is fighting to hit military targets, while hezballah just flings rockets into isreali cities without any regard for civillian casualties. That's not to say that isreal is completely perfect in it's operations either, I mean just take a look at Qana. But, that is the blight of war. Although you can even see that they are taking precautions not too cause any innocent life loss by dropping leaflets to warn when they are bombing in their are. I don't think that everyone in lebanon is bad, or a terrorist, first of all because hezballah is only a terrorist group acting inside of Lebanon and Lebanon just doesn't have the power to get rid of them. I don't even think that everyone who is participating in hezballah is bad, because there could be many reasons for them to be in it. I'm sure there are many people on both sides who would like the war and the senseless violence to be ended as soon as possible. To turn a blind eye to the vast amount of people who think this way on either side and to just say that either is wrong is a horrible thing as you've said. |
