Has anyone here ever bought an art at an art gallery? Not at an auction. I have seen the work of an artist, who has, in the past, been in various galleries and I’d love to get one of her painting. Does anyone have an experience? Does one pay by check? By credit card? Cash? And I assume that I pay the gallery not the artist, correct? Is there anything else I should know?

i have sold my own artwork through galleries in the past.
you would pay the gallery. just go to the front desk and ask about a particular piece.

the downfall of this is that you usually end up paying more because the dealer jacks up the price so that both the dealer and the artist can get a decent cut.

You need to go to the Art Gallery and see what their procedures are in purchasing an art piece.

I would imagine if it is at an Art Studio/Gallery it is paid to the Art Gallery by any means that they allow. They then notify the artist of the sale and the artist gets there money with the Gallery getting a certain percentage for displaying and selling it.

You must talk with them ..I'm sure all are under certain contracts and procedures.

Personally I find it much more intresting and less expensive to purchase it from the artists themselves at a local Art Fair.

You get to meet the artist and it leaves room for you to offer a reasonable price for a certain piece especially if you purchase more than one item.
