I just got new canvas and oil paint (my favorite medium) and I want to paint I just don't know what I should paint. Any specific ideas? I don't want ideas like draw a sunset but like something specific. If you aren't comfortable sharing artistic ideas I understand but I just can't think right now.

paint whatever comes first in your mind and continue by letting it flow make the brush an extension of your creative mind.

Sometimes when I can't come up with an idea, I change the environment - modify light, add a new prop, etc. I also have been known to take a walk - clear the mind of all the clutter. Sometimes we're not bored, but overbooked. So...Take a break - get a cup of tea. Take a walk. Meditate. Clear your mind...maybe daydream a little . See what comes around.

Whenever I don't know what to paint, I either paint a self portrait or a master copy. But those are just my defaults. As per specific, play around with different color palettes. Do a master copy of a head, but paint it with six different color combinations. We do that in class (six heads on a 16x20 canvas) and it always turns out really, really nice.

I like to paint close ups of people doing something that tells a story.. I mean real close so you can paint the wrinkles in the cloths and in the skin....use glazing technic..charcoal first with all the shading in charcoals then spray varnish it and start painting....hope this helps...
Hey, I just thought of one you might like, paint two skeletons playing chess, you know, bored, show the cloths in deterioration and hanging off.. |

In Detail you can paint Heaven, use bright colors and no shadows since there is no brown leaf, or death in heaven. Draw mountains, trees and a valley with animals, birds flying.
Water running, many pretty colorful flowers, and don't forget that magnificent skyline. |
