Just a great new project I'm working on.
Art Chatter I want to help prmote my local art community. The artists, galleries, etc. Any thoughts or opinions? I need to add more imagery and I'm trying to figure out how to modify this cms' templates. It's proving a bit difficult...the template just seems to control well yes the colors and look but just the positions of things overall...NOT detailed. I'm using Joomla. I can't seem to edit the way sections have their listings for the categories...I really don't want it just to be text, I want imagery...but if you go to local artists for instance, and see the town listings... any content that's added there just pushes down the listings. I want the listings to let the text/content flow around it.. like in a little side box. It's getting there though. |

Personally I find the site a bit too mambo-ish. I'd suggest a better CMS which offers far nicer templating, but I'm sure there will be mambo users that will flame me for that
I do see you are heavily limited by using a free cms like that so i suggest either trying some other cms' at opensourcecms and cmsmatrix or having a programmer do a custom one for you specific needs. Comments? Shoot. |

Hey Domen, what CMS is this?
I have been trying to make find a nice CMS for a personal portflio, something with a nice image gallery. I might develop a blogging CMS type, but not that good to make a whole CMS that would have a nice image gallery. |

For my personal use I use LDU on my websites - you can find it at http://www.neocrome.net. It's a great system with a very intuitive templating system, and above all it's very fast.
There is also a very nice gallery implemented in it, it's integrated into a personal file system for every member and you can tweak this to your liking (who gets to upload and what) It's also good for blogging and such. |

I generally hate CMS' . I would make my own, but it'd take way too long and this really isn't something I'm making money off of.
Joomla was the best solution because of their permissions and is the best CMS I've seen to date. I check opensourcecms all the time. I know there's limited templating. That's really not of much concern. I'm now learning the structure of Joomla, I'm making customized solutions to my needs. Which yea, it stinks if someone else were to want my "template" but I've taken the purpose of making a "compatible" CMS style/theme that could work for any Joomla site, away. This is my short-cut to programming my own. Rip apart someone else's I still have things to fiddle with, but I have taken the section lists and have readdressed the way those look. Using divs instead of tables and wrapping "intro text" which is now more like an article in length, around the category list div. Quite nice I think and allows me to do exactly what I want. So again, the reason for going with Joomla is because it was the closest match for what I wanted. Users can edit their sections, submit info, etc. I set it up with a different editor, made changes to that editor...restricted access in areas, given it in others. etc. NOW that I got most (I really hope all) of the access and usage issues out of the way...I'm going in and changing the aesthetics. I do agree with you. I dislike the standard Joomla/Mambo look. I really dislike how it's limiting too. So you won't get flamed by me for insulting it ...BUT...let's see if we can make it a liiiiitttle bit prettier. |

You should check into both cms at neocrome. Same permissions and everything you described with a unique look and very capable system. Used mambo for a while, but never going back.
