I know, I do this all of the time.

So, I'm back again. I have a rather strange tendency to forget about coming here. Maybe it's because the forums are more dead than I'd wish, maybe I'm just a genuinely forgetful person.

Well, so here I am. How have things been?

I've been relatively decent. College is pretty okay; I host a radio show every Saturday called "The Symphonic Saturday Swing-Shift Serenade," and it's quite fun. Perhaps the only thing I look forward to with each coming week.

I've had some bad things happen, and some good. I mostly live a life of distressingly consistent mediocrity, but oh well. If it weren't for music, I'd probably be insane (or more insane than I am) by now. According to my last.fm account, I've listened to 1600 songs in the vicinity of a month. But it's been more, since I don't always have the program that logs what I listen to open all of the time.

On a high note, I just bought sixteen CDs and a nice new mouse for my Powerbook.

If you would like any more intricate details of my life, please let me know. I can tell you most anything about how things are going. I'll tell you the last thought to run through my mind, the last food item I ate, or the kind of soap I use when I shower.

Okay, so maybe I am a bit insane. But that's alright, correct?

Hey patman, glad to have you back. Sorry about the forum being deader than expected, we're doing as much as we can to make it livelier :chinese:

Nice to hear about you enjoying your own radio show! What kid of music do you play at that time? What do you study at college?

Hope you stay a bit more this time ^_^
Siggie!

I am majoring in TV/Digital Film. Right now, I'm going to a smaller state university, but I may end up going to a real film school at some point. The problem is, film school is terribly expensive, and I can hardly afford going to the school I'm going to now...

Anyway, I'd love to stay and chat, but I have to get to class in fifteen minutes. And as of now, I'm on exactly zero minutes of sleep. How fun. I'm incredibly stressed at the moment.

What kind of money are we talking about here? I mean ... since there are a great amount of DVDs for film tehniques around which probably cost radically less.

Hay ho!
Wish it werent so dead, but it's actually quite lively, compared to some I go to. Some boards can remain quite dead even with a lot of new posts! I really like the gallery posts and comments.
College is stressfull, and how you land your first job is important. After you have been out in the field for 8 or ten years the college you went to won't matter nearly as much, it will be your reputation and work the speaks stronger.
At a more expensive school, there seems to be more at stake, competiton is keener, stress will be higher.
The money he is talking about is a lot. Depending on the state and the private school, the difference could be enough to buy a new car every year. Maybe a Subaru, maybe a Cadillac.
I don't think DVDs are a viable alternative. He could learn a lot from a DVDs, but going through college successfully will give him more reliable credentials and has sa better prospect of getting him into a situation where he can really showcase his abilities and begin a progressive career.
College isn't the only way to get where he's going, but it's a good way. If it were easy, anybody could do it and it would lose it's value.

I completely understand what you mean, a good college would have amazing professors teaching there. I'm sure those four cars in the four years would be paid off pretty soon cause of better work that would get done in the end, no?

I'm paying about 3600 euros pey year for my college thingie

Well, for example, the New York Film Academy is about $15,000 US Dollars per semester. That's $30,000 a year! Add in the cost of living and whatever, and it's "Hey mom, dad--I hope you don't mind being homeless for a few years" expensive.

I'm hoping that I can get an internship at a news station or something similar within the next couple of years. That's the kind of stuff that matters.

Ah! You've given away your location!
I went to a state school. Mom and Dad footed the whole bill. The tuition was minimal, but the cost of living in that town was phenomenal. Since they paid for it, they chose it, they chose the major. Dad agreed with Mom because he wanted to survive. I didn't want to go there and study that, but it was almost the only way out. Homelessness or whoring would have been my other options. My mother is very oppositional and very controlling. She raised two daughters to be very obedient small children. I will probably take my bitterness to my grave. In the meantime, I will go on and have a good life anyway.
See! I finally got Janow in my avatar. We've been together 13 years. It dosn't get any better than that!

Saying about the New York Film Academy isn't giving away my location.

It is only one of the most well-known film schools in the US.

Rats!

I have read that in some parts of NY State, the cost of living can choke. Only recently overtaken by the San Fransisco bay area.
In California, I would have thought film stuff migrated to the Los Angeles area.

If you can get a mentor prof keenly interested in your success, you can do better where you are than if you were just another metriculation at a famous school.

Gah! I didn't think of that. And I wouldn't be surprised if you already know where I'm from, anyway. I have been around these parts for quite some time, and probably less mysteriously than I am now.
