I think in many ways “talent” does seem to run in families but not necessarily in the way that you would expect.

I was thinking of the artist Lucian Freud, who has a famous brother – Clement Freud and a famous grandfather Sigmund Freud. The next generation of Freuds – including Emma and Matthew seem to be doing pretty well for themselves too!

I suppose all of the family have “creative thinking” in one shape or another.

no one in my family is into creative arts [m/f+s/brother] nor further afield[ aunts +uncles]
i taught myself how to draw at the late age of 22..from a book[ perspectives.. etc] in prison [boredom= oppertunity]
so i think its a learned thing ,

as for the freud family ,theres an artist and thinker the first freud to become ’’somebody’’ did he not pave the way for the others to be ’’famous’’by association ? lucien [thinker ] clement freud , a writer? tv persona?

having a monied background ,surely gives any family oppertuneties, to learn many things like writing and TV [most people have to do real work ] therefore dont have the time for such persuits so miss out on the potential to be the best / very good at something. if we all had the means and oppertunity would the other freuds stand out as they do ,who knows

  • Technique can be taught, so you can learn how to draw straight, understand perspective, texture, light and all of the actual physical parts of art. However, a great artist has something more that puts them on another level from the technicians.
  • THere is a 75% chance that is a hererity thing. In my family no one practices it. THe only person who does is my older brother and I. I noticed it because I actually talked to everyone. Like past generations and no practice certainly because they never had the materials or time, to practice art in any way. Who knows. Oh, have you seen the episode in Ripleys believe it or not, where this guy had no artistic skills and he had an airplane accident and was hit on his right side of his head and all of a sudden he had big time skills he did sculputures, drawings and stuff. That happend to me I was in a car accident and was hit somehow on my right side of my head, it was so severe I almost lost eyesight. That’s probably were my art skills were triggered, and I was only six when that happend. SO this another way in which artistic talent comes from.

What do you think about this?

  • In other words not entirely born with it, I think? :)
  • lol that’s awesome :D
brb, gonna bang a hammer on the right side o my head and hope i get some art skills :happy5:
