coal2k asked this question on the artcone forums: Hi all,
I’m currently trying to do a photomanipulation involving a figure lying on a stream bed in a few inches of water. For the life of me I can’t get the effing waterline right – anyone have any tips or advice as to how to draw a realistic waterline, especially with regards to how far up the body it should come?
Appreciated,
Coal x

Can you post up a small image of what you have so far?

As cof said, a screenshot would help a bunch.

Um… no, you misunderstood. I only have internet access at work, ie. I have no internet access at home (where my files are, obviously). When I got to work on Saturday, I didn’t have the picture with me and thus couldn’t post it. I’ll be posting it after lunch today when I remember to bring the damn thing to work with me

Hi guys,
Here’s a picture of what I had up to my sticking point. I actually ended up abandoning the waterline altogether and put the figure completely under the water (finished version is here) but I’d still appreciate any tips!

All in all I actually like the version you posted here more. The deviantart one just looks like it has a rock texture put over it and not at all water.
I’d suggest you tweak the one you were working with more and perhaps shoot yourself (well … not literally) in the tub to see how this really looks. The one tip I would give you is that hair actually gets wet so you need to take that into consideration and put some levels adjustment on it.

The picture looks very good, but like Domen said the only real issue is the hair. I think that it does need to be wet to give a more realistic look.
I like the water / rock effect behind the lady, and it gives the impression that the fabric is submerged under the water. A nice effect.
