VanGoghsEar asked this question on the artcone forums: The one thing that I do like doing on my computer is messing around with pictures. Normally, I will take pictures that I can find on the web but I’d like to mess about with magazine photos and even some things that I’ve created myself. My old flatbed scanner has died a death and I need a new one.
What functions should I look for and which are the best for this requirement?

If you also need a printer or such i suggest you look for an all in one unit from a reliable source such as hp or dell. Not only do they save room but the scanners on these things ar reallt top notch if i say so myself

Yes, I currently have a HP printer (photo) and a separate scanner. When I need to upgrade (which I would love too do right now)then I am going for the all in one scanner/printer/copiers. It will not only save me space, but from all of the reviews (I only buy HP), they are great. Just do some research and you can always Google “scanner/printer combos”.

I have a Lexmark 1200 series all-in-one, which has some really cool functions. It recognizes text out of the pictures, and you import the whole thing into any software you want, and edit the picture, text, tables, etc. I’ve been fiddling with it, transferring pictures to photoshop, and you can really have fun with it.

I use an all in one by HP. I find that having all the features I need in one piece of equipment is fantastic. I also will pack it up since it is small and take it places with me. This way I can scan or print on demand.
In the past, I have used the Lexmark all in one as well, although I am more partial to HP. It is not a bad little thing, I gave it to the kids to use. Although it has some good features, I am not so impressed that I would want to use it for what I do, but it is generally less expensive than other scanner/printer combinations.
