If anyone has seen the movie "Where the Heart Is", the older sister does body painting that melds into the background. What is the name of that art style?
I know it's a real art form, with a French name. She painted the bodies and the background. It's like a 2-d art form that looks 3-d from the style. I'm referring to the movie from 1990 starring Uma Thurman and Dabney Coleman and not the one with Natalie Portman with the same name. |

It's just body painting. There isn't enough of that style of body painting for it to have developed a name of it's own.

Cool, I actually haven't seen the movie, but just did some research and google searches to see if I can give you a good answer. It reminds me of the stuff they do in Laguna Beach at Pageant of the Masters. There's a link to their site. I've seen the show a half dozen times. It's SO cool.
Anyways, yeah, it is body art, but the french word you might be thinking of is "trompe l'oeil" which literally translates to "trick of the eye" or optical illusion which makes the person "disappear" into the painting. Trompe L'Oeil isn't necessarily specific to body painting, but it's probably the term you're looking for. |
