Hello all

I have never quite got to grips with Photoshop for producing graphics and wondered how others found it . It seems to be almost a standard package to have. Do people use other packages such as Paintshop Pro? Macromedia Freehand? Macromedia Fireworks?

I am a big fan of Fireworks but tend to produce graphics using more than one package.

Photoshop here - Cant work fireworks or Paintshop Pro to save my life.

Ive probably only scratched the surface of what Photoshop can do, but it seems to be the most powerful option available for graphics work

Another new contender is the Adobe Lightroom program, what was just released for Windows users. The download of the beta is free and it will work till January i think.

Was a Paintshop Pro user a long long time ago, during the times of Photoshop 3 I think. Never was able to get the point of Fireworks. I mean I use just about everything from Macromedia's (uhm, Adobe's) suite, but ... Fireworks was like ... unbelievably strange.

BrownSugar, I know it might be hard in the beginning, but you better get to grips
with Photoshop. With Shop you can do almost everything in graphics, with Shop and
Illustrator you can do everything, and if you catch virus and learn something of InDesign,
you can easily fly to the Moon. There is no excuse not to learn this program(s), if you are
serious about this, when I started 5-6 years ago, it was maybe 5 books and 2 tutorials
on the web, now you open sardina can and it pops out PS book or tutorial.
Or, in other words, there is Fender Tele, Fender Strat and Gibson LesPaul, everything
else is cheap imitation, so, you better always stay with originals.

That's very true, however not all can afford the price of Photoshop to do simple tasks like removing a zit from the face and crop out a photo.

GIMP seems pretty good if you're after a free option

I use Paintshop Pro or Corel for a number of reasons:

* I can afford it;
* I only prepare simple graphics;
* there are a huge number of plugins including tubes - so I can be a little creative.

I think if I was preparing graphics more regularly, I would be tempted to save up for Photoshop.

Corel? You are referring to any specific product by Corel, like Photopaint? Cause Paint Shop Pro was purchased by corel as well so it's now all theirs

Yes you are right Domen in that Corel took over Jasc (the makers of Paintshop Pro). I am still using Painshop Pro 9 and also have version 7 knocking around.

I notice that coupel of new products have come out from Corel - Paintshop Pro Photo XI and CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X3. Has anyone used them?

I've used the new corel draw quite a lot but have grown hating it since it practically destroyed it's vectorizing tool.

I use Corel Paintshop Pro X and Adobe Photoshop CS2. I'm not very good yet so I use PSP most of the time. It's easier to use and I just love the tubes. I like making my own tubes. Anyway, PSP is the only one installed on my computer. I have to use my brother's laptop to use Photoshop.

I use too use PSP; also known as Paint Shop Pro, but finally went to Photoshop a year later. Ever since, Photoshop is the one. No other can compare. I think I sound like a song now, but it is so true.

I am an avid photoshop user. I cant use paint shop pro,corel draw or GIMP to save my life. I guess it is just my attraction to photoshop since it is the first imaging program that i have ever used.
