Gimp is a very complex prog, similar to photoshop and freeware. If you don’t need a prog with so many options, I recommend IrfanView, which I use for most tasks like resizing, cropping, saving in different format, creating slideshows and so on. It is easy to use and freeware also.

Adobe also make a cheaper version called PhotoShop elements. They’ve cut out some of the more advanced features, but it’s still suitable for what most people want to do.
