Mikoid asked this question on the artcone forums: Hi there!
I was wondering how can anyone create an effect like this in Photoshop CS? I tried to search for “glass effect” / “advance gradient” in Google and in this forums and still find no luck.

If anyone knows how to do this, or know of places with brushes like these (looked everywhere, can’t find) then please post. I appreciate you taking the time to read this! Have a great day.

Looks easy to me.. I’ll have a few goes at it and see if I can’t get you something…

I think the easies way to achieve this is by using a 3d application like bryce and create several huge and very transparent toruses.
Another option to do this is by using a slightly feathered circular selection and a very big soft brush and just brush in the white strokes. You could further manipulate everything by having each stroke on a different layer and then modifying the transparency.
Did this help you or do I make a tutorial on this?

@ Jeff: yeah, the first time I saw it, I also thought its easy to create such effect so I tried to create similar effect using pen tool, brush and blend it in overlay mode but my final work was still far from those kind of effect. I maybe missing something so Im hoping you guys can help
@ Lombi: awww, really? Im concentrating with Photoshop right now (and Flash since my work calls for it) but Im planning to learn 3DMax, Bryce or Maya soon once I reach the level I want to be in Photoshop.
yes, I think I already tried that option but my final work was not as clean as those with the picture. Or I maybe missing something so I’ll greatly appreciate if you can provide a tutorial with this, ’cause I know there are still web designers out there (like me) who dont know how to create an effect like this
P.S.
another example of this technique is the header of http://www.aim.com

Try going here:

Just repeat the first two steps, and you should have a similar effect.
This is for illustrator by the way.
EDIT: A tut for photoshop was posted on good-tutorials today, in case anyone wants to do this without illustrator.
