Do you mean Orientalist paintings? Paintings by Westerners who visited the Near and Middle East (African coast, Syria, Lebanon and Palestine) in the 19th century and depicted the romantic landscapes, strange customs and exotic life style of harems, horsemen and whirling dervishes. Or came to paint the brilliant light which was quite different from that in Europe.
If this is what you are looking for go to http://www.artunframed.com/gerome.htm Jean-Leon Gerome and scroll down to Slave Auction, Black Bashi-Bazouk, Harem Pool and others Also look at Eugene Fromentin on line pics. and you will see there are plenty of examples of Arab Falconry and similar subjects in pics in leading museums. Both these painters were French, but artists came to the Orient from all over Europe. (Plenty of books on the subject with great pics) |
