While it is more in depth than Photoshop, it is a brilliant program. I would suggest buying the manual, but i think it costs alot.

Yes, it is very difficult to learn (any program that has "Stylize" twice on the same drop down menu is NOT user intuitive -- just look at the "Effects" menu!).

I have to call a friend anytime I need to do work with it because I keep forgetting the tricks of how to do things!

It is hard to learn. I find when teaching people Illustrator is that once they master the "Pen" tool everything else seems easier in comparison.
